District HIB Message from the Superintendent

  • January 2017

Dear Rockaway Township Parents and Guardians,

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, school districts in New Jersey implemented the requirements found in the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights. These requirements include establishing procedures, practices, and personnel to address and respond to situations that may involve harassment, intimidation or bullying

The Rockaway Township School District has made progress over the past few years in addressing school climate and culture; provide training opportunities for staff; and engaging students in activities and opportunities to learn how to become more respectful, responsible, and considerate students and members of our school community.

Each year the district completes a self assessment based on key components within the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights. The assessment for the 2015-2016 school year indicated strengths in the areas of curriculum and instruction on HIB related information and skills, HIB investigation procedures, HIB programs and approaches, and school-level HIB incident reporting procedures.

The overall assessment also indicates that our schools have met and exceeded expectations in all component areas. The district continues ongoing staff training, in-service, and discussions on creating positive and supportive climates for all our students.

Our staff will continue to work to make our classrooms and schools places your children can feel safe, protected, and successful. We appreciate your support and feedback as we continue our work in these areas.

    Dr. Greg McGann
    Superintendent of Schools
